With wins over Nueva Esperanza asnd Holy Redeemer, the Brandywine Heights baseball team has rolled on in to the PIAA State Class AA semifinals, with only two more wins needed for the ultimate goal of winning a state championship.
Not only did the Bullets win both of their first two state games, they won them both handily, with a combined score of 16-2.
The Bullets took on District 11 champion Pine Grove on June 11 in the semifinal contest. Due to our press deadline, we are unable to report the results of the contest.
On June 5, the Bullets took on Nueva Esperanza in the first round of the state tournament, Brandywine scored two quick runs in the first, then four more in the second on their way to a 9-1 win.
Luke Erb pitched a complete game two-hitter for Brandywine, walking just one and fanning 13.
Offesively the Bullets were led by Kevin Sell who had three hits (two singles and a double) and drove in three runs. Jon Dekovitch and Bryce Galczynski each contributed two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
The victory sent them to the quarterfinals on June 7 where they took on Holy Redeemer. The Bullets scored at least one run in four of their six innings and won the game, 7-1. A run in the second and two in the third gave the Bullets the lead, then they pulled away with three in the fifth.
Michael Hunter was the winning pitcher, hurling a brilliant game. He allowed just one hit and struckout 15 batters.
Offensively the Bullets made the most of their seven hits, and got some help with three Holy Redeemer errors that led to four unearned runs.
Hunter helped his own cause with the hits and three RBIs. Nick Delongscored a pair of runs as did Darien McKenrick.
