A fatal accident occurred early Wednesday morning at approximately 2:36 a.m. on Route 662 at Oley Turnpike Road.
Michael Robert Snyder II, 23, of Douglasville, was pronounced dead the scene as a result of trauma to the head and chest. The manner of death has been declared accidental, and no autospy will be conducted, according to Deputy Coroner Kurt E. Katzenmoyer.
According to Reading State Police:
Snyder was traveling eastbound in a white 1994 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, on Oley Turnpike Road approaching Route 662. Derek Walker Atkinson, 32, of Delaware, was traveling northbound on Route 662 at the same time, in a white 2003 Peterbilt 379.
Synder failed to stop at a stop sign on Oley Turnpike Road and entered the intersection of Route 662. The Oldsmobile’s front end impacted the trailer of the 2003 Peterbilt in the northbound lane of Route 662. The Oldsmobile became lodged underneath the trailer of the Peterbilt and was drug roughly 200 yards into the northbound lane. Both vehicles came to a final rest in the northbound lane of Route 662, with Snyder’s Oldsmobile lodged underneath the trailer of Atkinson’s Peterbilt.
Atkinson did not sustain any injuries.
Oley Fire, Oley EMS, Amity Fire, and Amity EMS assisted on the scene.
Route 662 in the area of Oley Turnpike Road was reportedly shut down for several hours while the crash was under investigation.
