Reading, PA – The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, announced on Sept. 25 that the team has agreed to terms with forward Jay Silvia. A first year pro from Burlington, Massachusetts, Silvia (6’2/209) (23) is the sixteenth player announced as signed by the Royals for the 2012-13 season, joining forwards Julien Cayer, Ethan Cox, Tyler Gron, Chris Langkow, Trevor Lewis, David Marshall, Ian O’Connor, Yannick Tifu, and Jesse Todd; and defensemen Garrett Clarke, Adam Comrie, Derrick LaPoint, Bryant Molle, Denny Urban and Brad Walch.
Last season, Silvia scored seven goals, assisted on eleven others (eighteen points) and picked up forty-three penalty minutes in thirty-nine games in his senior season at Holy Cross College. Silvia, who received the Dr. James M. Stewart Memorial Award for commitment, leadership and performance, played two games with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL at the conclusion of his senior year with the Crusaders. Silvia, who was also honored with the Seventh Player Award after his junior year at Holy Cross, scored more goals (34)—and had more game winners (10)—than any other member of his four year class at Holy Cross. In 140 total games with the Crusaders, he registered sixty-four points (34g-30a) and 136 penalty minutes.
