On July 20, the Animal Rescue League of Berks County received 30 of the 200 Chihuahuas involved in an animal hoarding case in Columbia County.
PA State police and dog wardens busted an illegal animal hoarder in Columbia County who had more than 200 Chihuahuas living in her house. The dogs are now being distributed to multiple shelters in the surrounding counties who are willing to care for them.
Many of the dogs are in poor condition and require medical attention. Out of the 30 dogs, the ARL will receive, up to 10 of the older Chihuahua’s requiring more extensive care will be placed in the ARL’s Grey Muzzle Foster Program.
At this time, the animals are not yet up for adoption until they can be examined by a veterinarian.
The Animal Rescue League is currently accepting donations for the Noel Fund, which is set up to aid with costs for animals requiring medical attention. Please visit www.berksarl.org for information on how to donate or call 610-373-8830 ext 117 and ask for Ashley.
