A new ordinance will serve as a guide for Fleetwood’s character and image.

Fleetwood Borough Council is creating a new ordinance, called the Architectural Aesthetic Overlay District Ordinance.

“It is our intention by the drafting and acceptance of the ordinance to create a framework within which the Central Business District’s future can be guided,” said Suzanne Touch, FleetwoodCouncil President.

Council discussed the new ordinance for Fleetwood’s Business District during council’s meeting on Monday, Aug. 27.

RELATED ASSETS

This ordinance is part of a bigger goal for Fleetwood.

“We are the stewards of the preservation, character and image of Fleetwood Borough for generations to come and this ordinance is another step in insuring that future for our children and future residents,” said Touch.

She explained that the ordinance serves as a voluntary guide as to the elements of improvement to all properties within the Central Business District and encompasses, structures, signage, lighting and streetscaping.

Also, if a resident wants to apply for a Pennsylvania state facade grant, the process of application that must be followed to be considered is outlined in the ordinance, said Touch.

The ordinance will be advertised and up for discussion and vote on Oct. 8 during a public hearing.
