On the evening of Sept. 11, 2012, a memorial flight of the U.S. flag shaped hot air balloon ‘America One’ took place over Eagle, Pa. Launching America One is an annual event, with this year’s being the 11th anniversary for the tragedy of 9/11, and the tenth years since America One was built and first flown (May 2002).
Owners Teri and Barry DiLibero commissioned America One to be built one week after the attacks in 2001, and tour the country every year with the hot air balloon. America One is the largest free flying American Flag in the world.
America One has not been flown locally for 9/11 for several years, however, as it has been in other locations for appearances during that time. In attendance were 70 representatives of seven local fire companies in Northern Chester County.
