Hospice & Community Care, founded as Hospice of Lancaster County, invites the community to attend their annual “Light Up A Life” Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5, 6:30 p.m., at Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster. During the ceremony, thousands of white lights, each representing a life worthy of celebration, will be lit on evergreen trees in memory and in honor of loved ones. Everyone is invited, regardless of whether hospice care was provided.

Music will be provided by The Auscultation Brass. Parking is available at the Lancaster General Health Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, with shuttle service provided to the ceremony. Lights may be purchased and dedicated to a loved one by calling 295-3900, to benefit Hospice & Community Care patients and families facing serious illness and end of life. Following the ceremony, the lights will remain lit throughout the holiday season.

“For those who have experienced the death of a loved one, the holidays can be a difficult time of year,” says Patti Anewalt, PhD, Director of the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss. “Establishing traditions, such as attending the Light Up A Life Ceremony each year, can help families honor the memory of someone special. Buying a gift in a loved one’s memory or lighting a candle each night can be an important way to incorporate the memory into each holiday season.”

For those who have experienced a loss and are looking for support during the holiday season, Hospice & Community Care’s Pathways Center for Grief & Loss offers free “Coping with the Holidays” support groups. Call the Pathways Center at 391-2413 for more information.
