The kids of Kutztown Arts & Theatre for Children performed Dec. 1 at the Kutztown Train Station to a full house. The theme, an old time radio show, easily allowed for KATCH actors and singers to meld their talents together into what became a spectacular performance.
The solos from Hallie Barrel, Katherine Brooks, and Hunter-Willow Jones intertwined with group vocal acts and the acting skills of Dominic Richards, the host of our show, Erin Randall and Margaret Brooks as well as Hunter-Willow and Hallie. The cast of KATCH Old Time Radio Show was funny, adorable and simply talented.
KATCH, a Kutztown-based performance group for kids 6-18, opened its doors in 2011 with the ambition to give the talented kids of Kutztown and surrounding areas a safe place to build their confidence in performing. Throughout the past two years KATCH has grown and developed into a sound program that does just that. Monday nights from 6 to 7p.m., kids interested in vocal performance and dance meet with mentors Nancy Brooks and Jamie Vanek with a focus on performing as a group. On Thursday nights kids interested in acting meet with mentors Jeff Jones, former Actor’s Equity member, and Laura Jones to work on acting skills, monologues and short skits.
In addition to the winter vocal session, the 2013 program will start off with KATCH Theatre auditions on Jan. 17 for Shakespeare in the Park. KATCH Theatre will present Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as well as an original play, “A Lost Girl in Neverland” at Kutztown Park’s Bandshell in May (exact dates to be determined). Kids from 10-18 are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue from a classic comedy for Midsummer, while kids from 6-12 may just come in and read from the script. KATCH Winter Party and Parent Meeting will be held on Dec. 17, from 6 to 7p.m. at Indie Space, 19 E. Main Street, Kutztown, for current and potential members. Come find out more about the program, sign up for KATCH Theatre auditions and register for the vocal Winter session. More information is available at www.KATCHtheWave.weebly.com.
