Suicide by car attempted in Maxatawny on New Year’s Day, driver charged with assault and DUI

A 21-year-old man attempted to commit suicide by driving into another vehicle on New Year’s Day in Maxatawny, according to State Police.

According to a report made by State Police Corporal Raymond O’Donnell, Robert Peter Fritz, 21, of Hillsdale, N.J., attempted to kill himself by driving a rented 2012 Dodge Avenger into an oncoming 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Thomas Reidenhour, Kutztown. The crash occurred at 1 p.m. on College Boulevard at Apex Avenue in Maxatawny Township.

Neither of the drivers were injured. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

O’Donnell reported that Fritz was given a breath test and his BAC was determined to be .057 percent.

RELATED ASSETS

Fritz was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence, and various traffic offenses. He was committed to Berks County Prison.
