NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — Garden Spot Village ALIVE (Active Lifelong Learners in Vital Engagements) continues its Living History series with a program on the Great Depression.

“This program will put the Great Depression in a historical context enhanced by recollections by those who experienced the event and the recovery from it,” said Chet Yoder, director of pastoral services at Garden Spot Village.

Dan Spanjer, associate professor of Arts and Sciences at Lancaster Bible College, will present an hour-long lecture on the events leading up to the Great Depression, the depression itself and how the U.S. economy pulled out of it. Following a coffee and pastry break, participants will be invited to ask questions and to share memories and experiences of this era.

Living History is free and open to the general public. The program is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave. Refreshments served. Please preregistered by March 18. Call 717-355-6159.

The program is a cooperative effort between Garden Spot Village, Lancaster Bible College and Garden Spot High School. The event will be recorded on compact disc, and copies will be available for a modest fee.
