Wood suffered a 7-2 loss to Thomas Haines of Solanco, who is 38-1 on the season, in the championship bout.

Teammate Eddie Kriczky (126 pounds) lost in the second round of consolation bracket today and fell one win short of a medal.

Wood began his tournament with a 4-1 decision over Cole Macek of Montour in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Wood made it a 6-1 victory over Shaun Heist of Parkland.

The sent him to Saturday’s semifinals where he took on the Southwest Regional champion Zach DeLuca of Pittsburgh Central Catholic. That one was a little tougher but the Boyertown freshman came out on top, 5-3.

With the victory, Wood was in the championship bout. That accomplishment on its own is incredible for any freshman. But he was unable to get by the very tough Haines. Wood finished the season with an overall record of 46-1.

Kriczky started his tournament off with a 10-6 loss to Caleb Young of Punxsutawney. That sent Kriczky to the consolation round and his best hope was a third place medal.

There he started with a 4-3 victory over Cortland Schuyler of Manheim Township. But in the second consolation round, Kriczky was defeated, 6-0 by Chase Zemenak of Nazareth.

Kriczky ended his season with an overall record of 39-12 and one win away from a state medal.
