Twin Valley School District Honors Dr. Seuss’s Birthday

The following is a press release from the Twin Valley School District
ELVERSON, PA – In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, the 5th grade community of learners at Twin Valley Middle School participated in a 2 day celebration. Our principal, Dr. Sakoian, “kicked off” the events in the TVMS library, with a reading of her favorite book, The Places You Will Go. Before beginning her “read aloud,” she explained to the students that the road to success is not always easy and perseverance is key. In addition, she talked about the accomplishment of a former Robeson Elementary student, Ethan Long, who received the 2013 Theodore Geisel Author Award! During her reading, each colorful page was displayed on the big screen for the students to view.
Afterwards, the students rotated through a variety of interactive reading, writing, and creating activities that all required the use of one’s imagination, as Mr. Moczydlowski , our librarian reminded the students. The activities were planned collaboratively by the 5th grade Language Arts teachers, learning support teachers, and librarian. Some of the activities included: “Create Your Own Seuss Character”, “Yertle the Turtle Rewrite”, “Seuss Bio, The Boy on Fairfield Street”, “Video View” of well-known Seuss stories, and “Seuss Character Photo Booth” where students made picture frames, dressed up in Seuss props, and had a picture taken in front of a Dr. Seuss backdrop. Laughter and smiles filled the rooms and hallways, as the kids engaged in these fascinating and unique learning opportunities.
